Disappearing stocks...

Disappearing stocks.... hopefully we are not heading to this...

That last box of biscuits left on the shelf must be good, mustn’t it? Otherwise it wouldn’t be the only one left.

Consumer research has discovered that half-empty shelves in the supermarket are a strong driver of sales.

Experts call this the bandwagon effect. people tend to buy a product that seems to be selling well....the others before him , might know something more about the product, hence the sales.

No, why? Well, a half empty shelve gives you some information to go on if you are standing in front of a shelf and you don’t know what to choose. You could piggyback on the collective knowledge of others.
People are not misled by half-empty shelves, however.

A friend reckons that the shelves are kept empty to boost demand...but what can you buy if you have no choice? My local store has a lot of shelves empty or have a few products spread out across the shelves to create the illusion of being stocked up.

I made a phone call or 6 to my favourite Store's spokesperson and after a few "I'll put you through to...." I managed to speak to someone who promised that the shelves will be stocked tomorrow.

I believe that the supermarket company which is part of a huge concern, has a fleet of ships due to arrive shortly...hopefully laden with out of stock products.

But in the meantime...how about a sign in the store to thank us for being patient...or a notice in the media...or a posting on Face Book!

Have you experienced any shortages in your local supermarkets? Do you think it is due to a lack of management...control...due to the recession..?
